Over the past few years, the alkaline diet has been a topic of discussion in the news. Also known as the alkaline ash diet or the pH diet, it is becoming more and more popular for us to consider this as a way of life than a quick ‘fad’. Dr Stephan Domenig, author of The Alkaline Cure says the alkaline diet is based on the idea that optimal health comes from balancing the body’s pH by eating more fresh vegetables and fruit, as well as certain legumes, grains and nuts.
The theory is that a high-acid diet creates a breeding ground for disease and leads to poor health.

The reason we need to keep our bodies at an alkaline state is because we as humans require a controlled pH level for our blood of about 7.365 – 7.4. The way we can keep this controlled is by eating alkaline foods rather than acidic foods.
