In our last post we mentioned the importance of treating ourselves, but after the craze of Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales, it’s time to treat ourselves in a different way.

We have heard it all when it comes to detoxifying our bodies, from juice cleansing to clean eating, but what if we told you the best cleanse for our wellbeing may have nothing to do with food. Let’s talk about detoxing our minds-starting with a digital detox!

We all know detoxification is a vital process in supporting normal body functioning, and this concept should be applied when it comes to our mind.

With technology constantly adapting and changing, it is easy to become overwhelmed and consumed by the digital world. At times, we may even lose our sense of reality as it is hard to switch off from a fear of missing out. We need to take a step back and put our gadgets down.

A digital detox is a great way to stay productive and remain balanced in the online world we live in.  But how do we detox digitally? Simply switch off all mobile, smartphones, tablets and computers for a certain length of time- it’s as easy as that.

Although the thought of a digital detox may be confronting, it may be worth your while in the long term. Switching off digitally can give a connection to our lives that no WIFI can provide. Here is how a digital detox can benefit our health.

  1. Improving sleep: We all know the importance of a good night’s rest. Not only does it help heal and repair our bodies, it is essential for boosting our mood, diminishing under eye circles and improving dull complexions. If you are one to use your phone before bed, be mindful that it can affect your sleep by keeping you more wired at night.
  2. Self-reflection: digitally detoxing gives us a chance to step back temporarily. Having this break allows us to be more productive and have a different perspective. It is easy to become influenced by what we see online, which is why it’s important to remember who we are as individuals and to not get caught up with online ideals.
  3. Better relationships: switching off allows us to spend more time and be more present in our relationships, rather than being fixated on a screen. It gives us a chance to do things we love and be with the people who matter to us.
  4. Most importantly- DESTRESS: Stress is a natural part of life, but with the added pressure of up keeping appearances online, it can take its toll on our bodies. Stress not only can affect our inner health, it can also affect our skin by causing breakouts and skin rashes. It is important to remember to relax our minds without resorting to technology.
